Forced Marriage Protection in England & Wales<\/strong>

We all have the right to choose if, when and who we marry under the law of England & Wales. Therefore, forcing someone to marry against their wishes is a criminal offence and there are civil protections available to those at risk.

What is an FMPO?<\/strong>

An FMPO is an injunction which can be issued the Family Court under the Forced Marriage (Civil Protection) Act 2007. Each order is uniquely tailored to protect the person at risk and can be granted on an urgent application to court.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/path><\/svg><\/span>Protect those already in a forced marriage<\/span><\/div>\n\n\n\n
<\/path><\/svg><\/span>Restrict individuals from taking someone abroad<\/span><\/div>\n\n\n\n
<\/path><\/svg><\/span>Order surrender of passports or travel documents<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Criminal Offence & Consequences<\/strong>
In addition, since 2014, it is an offence to force someone to marry under the Anti-Social Behaviour, Crime and Policing Act 2014. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n
